Going herbal

Drinking lots of caffeine, as we know, isn’t recommended during pregnancy (we should limit to a max of 2 cups a day), so thoughts then go to herbal teas as they’re better for us, right? Yes, normally they are, but there are a few that should be avoided in pregnancy.

Check the ingredients before you buy and avoid ones that mention cohosh, pennyroyal, mugwort and ephedra. Red raspberry is supposedly good for encouraging and helping with labour in the last few weeks, but avoid it in the first trimester.

To ensure you don’t get any of these in your drink, why not make it yourself.Just get fruit juices, lemon zest, cinnamon and cloves (whichever your favourite combos are) and mix with boiled water or decaf tea.

(specify in the notes field that you want pregnancy rather than normal newsletter)
