How to sleep better during pregnancy

Adequate sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle, and can benefit your heart, weight, mind, and more. Obviously during pregnancy getting a decent nights sleep is easier said than done, especially in the later stages. Lots of things with hinder you, such as heartburn, restless legs and just being generally uncomfortable!

Things that could help:

  • Stick to a sleep schedule - regulate your body by going to bed and getting up at the same time each day

  • Have a relaxing bedtime routine - reading, taking a bath or having a warm drink. Wind down at least 20-30 minutes before actually going to bed

  • Make your bedroom a sleep sanctuary - keep your room a little on the cool side as you may feel warmer than normal during pregnancy. Noise and light can wake you easily so have blackouts or use earplugs.

  • Use your bedroom for just sleep and sex (anyone interested in the latter of these ;-) - no technology (TV’s, phones, ipads etc)

  • Learn to sleep on your left side - better position for blood and nutrients to flow to your baby and helps your kidneys get rid of waste and fluids.
